Pick-Ups can be scheduled during our regular hours 7am - 3pm Monday
through Thursday, or up until noon on that Friday. You can also
leave us a voicemail if you call after hours.
How do I dispose of paints and other chemicals?
Refer to Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District for the answer to
this question. www.cuyahogaswd.org
What appliances contain Freon and how do I prepare these items
for a Friday Special Pick-Up?
Items that contain Freon include refrigerators, freezers, and dehumidifiers.
According to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), residents
must contact a certified technician to drain the Freon. Even if
you know that the Freon has already been drained, if there is not
a tag on the item from a certified technician indicating so; the
item will not be collected.
How do I prepare my recycling for collection?
All acceptable paper products can be mixed together in a paper grocery
bag (no plastic bags) or bundle. Residents are allowed two bags
or bundles to be picked up with the regular rubbish per week, but
are encouraged to continue dropping off paper at the paper bin near
the Service Department. Glass, plastic, and aluminum can also be
mixed together and collected with the normal rubbish. For more information
on recycling, go to Rubbish Collection & Recycling section of
our website.
Besides adding cat litter or oil dry to my latex paint, how can I dry it?
Do
- Allow the paint to dry by removing the lid and allowing the
liquids to evaporate. This works well for small quantities of
paint (an inch or two in the bottom of the can), and can take
several days.
- Latex paint can also be solidified by mixing in an equal amount
of an absorbent material and allowed to dry. Use sawdust, cat
litter, plaster of paris, or vermiculite.
- Pour thin layers (about 1" of paint) into a cardboard box
lined with plastic. Allow the paint to dry one layer at a time
until all paint has hardened.
- When thoroughly dry, the remaining hardened paint should be
discarded with your regular rubbish. Leave the lid off the can
so the sanitation crew can see the paint is hardened.
Do Not
- Dump the paint on the ground or down storm drains where it will
travel directly to surface and / or ground waters.
- Pour it down the drain. While small amounts of latex paint can
safely be washed down the drain to a septic system or wastewater
treatment plant, this practice should be kept to a minimum. Limit
this to brush cleaning and clean-up.
- Throw liquid paint in the regular rubbish. It may be released
from the can when rubbish is compacted and may seep out of a waste
collection vehicle onto your driveway and street.
